i'm currently running a 302- T-18/205 combo in my ranger and tring to save a little weight.I have a 435/dana21.Will the 21 handle the 302??I dont do alot of HD off roading. Thanks
The NP-435 was used in 2-ton trucks (like school buses), so it'll handle a LOT more than a Ranger. It's no lighter than the T-18, and probably a little heavier. Look in the "Knowledge Base" here.
i'm not asking about the trans HELLO.The transfer case
New Process 435
Top loaded heavy-duty 4-speed transmission with cast iron case and extension housing and aluminum shift tower. 2nd through 4th gears are synchronized with 1st and reverse using non synchronized sliding gear. Found in 1963-85 Dodge trucks, 1964 to 85 Ford pickup trucks and stripped chassis, 1964 to 72 GM trucks, and International Harvester and Navistar trucks from 1964-85. produced in both 2 and 4 wheel drive versions.
I'm not familiar with the Dana 21 Transfercase. I am familiar with the Dana 20, in case this was a typo. The Dana 20 was used in early bronco's and had plenty of strength for a 302. Hope this helps, excuse me if it doesn't.
Is your truck a full size Ranger or midsize? I have a 1988 Ford Ranger equipped with both axles from a early Bronco (1974), 302 and the "NP435/NP205 combo. I don't see many people choose the 4 speed for their V8 swaps. What made you deside on it, and why do you feel you need to lose a marginal amount of weight, while risking the lose of strength? Again, I'm not sure with the Dana 21, but I undertsnad the Dana 20 is geared much lower than the NP205.
If your truck is the Ford Ranger midsize, what type of clutch slave cylinder did you use, external or internal? The reason I ask is, I have doen several V8 swaps over the years using both automatic transmissions and internal clutch slave cylinder systems on my manual transmissions. It wasn't until I desided to use and external clutch slave cylinder that I found, finding a set of headers that will fit is so far, not avaliable? If by a slim chance you fit just happen to have the same set-up and headers, what are they?

i dont see anything about school buses
As for the School Bus comment, Don't be so sure he's wrong. I persoanlly pulled one out of a old Coca-Cola truck (Not sure on year). It even had a drum brake attached to the bak of the transmission. I have heard of the NP435 being used up to 20,000lbs vehicles.
i dont have headers on mine YET.My ranger(little one) is a std origanily but i changed the clutch set up to a 83ish 1/2 ton.Clutch master and external slave and bellhousing.corrently is a 69-302 with a T-18/205 and a 9in.I had a dana44 up front but took in out and put the stock front end in.Jegs has swap shortie headers.

I don't see anything about Broncos, either. I guess they were never put in Broncos. Do you REALLY think ANY list is going to include EVERY vehicle that it was used in? And I didn't say it was necessarily used in schoolbuses - I said 2-ton trucks, LIKE schoolbuses. But do you know what schoolbuses start out as?

that is soooooooo wrong why would you take out a weaker axle?
i think the dana 21 t case you have is a one speed so if i were you i'd put in the 205 and put the dana 44 frt axle back in and sleep well at night knowing your little ranger can handle just about anything you throw at it. i'd take an extra 40lbs over a $500+ repair bill anyday.
the guys i use to 4 wheel with sold there rigs in favor of two wheelers.so i have no one to play with.so i'm making my ranger more street friendly.also taking the 9in out.I still have the danna44 and a set of 6in over skyjackers springs. All this was installed but never run.i was building the ranger when they sold there rigs.Tha 44 and springs are for sale

I have used several headers over the years on several Ranger swaps. All were easy straight forward swaps until the external clutch slave cylinder was used. The problem is finding a set of headers that doesn't put the collector dumping out right in the same location as the clutch slave cylinder. I have personally handled at least 20 different sets of headers in an attempt to find a set that won't have to be custom. I have two more to look into. One is a new set made to follow the exact same path as the original manifold off a early Bronco. (What I'm using now) and possibly the 302 Equipped explorers manifold/header.
As for the Dana 44. where do you live, what are you asking for it, and what is it out of? Same with the 9". I usually know someone looking for them.
Removing the 9" with a 302 installed would be insane. If you do, at least use a 4.0L 8.8 Ranger rear end. Explorers use coil springs, making them a bit more work to use.
i'm in Newbury NH.The Dana is a 75 drum brake,Has been sand blasted and painted, new ball joints, wheel bearings and seals,C***Y HD tie rod ends in which the holes have been retapered so the drag link is on top,new "C" and radius and bushings. Also have the stock springs. $200 and $75 skyjackers I'm gonna keep the 9in
