Need a new computer.

Anyone know where I can get a new/used PCM for my early 99 f350 7.3 at a decent price? Can I just swap them out and then possibly have Ford or someone program it? Thanks!

Seems like some have used autocomputerexchange IIRC, but why do you think you need a PCM is my first question?

I would look at salvage yards personally. You just need one of the same transmission and drive type for the most part, so others will work.

I have a TON of spare PCMs (figuratively, of course). What is your current computer's box code?

We'll go from there.

That sounds awesome! XLE4 is the one I have now.

The next question is whether you have a chip (not a flash programmer or "10K"-style module).

If you already have a chip for your current computer, I can sell you an XLE4 pretty cheap. This will allow you to just plug-and-play.

If you don't have a chip, you have the option of going to a 99.5-01 computer. It won't be as cheap (because they're a bit more desirable), but the base shifting strategy is much better and it's essentially a drop-in.

If you have a chip already for your XLE4 but want to go to a newer PCM, you'd have to get your chip reflashed to work correctly with the newer PCM....it will still run, but there are a few issues that arise.

Well, crud. I just went out to check my stock and found that I only have one XLE4 (I actually have two, but one was reflashed to a manual code) so I can't get rid of that one. I'm not sure where the other one went.....I KNOW I had three at one time.......

I do have four 99.5-01 boxes so I could easily sell you one for $175 (includes the ride on USPS) if you want to go that route.....you'd simply need a chip recalibration to work with it.

Or you can always check ebay...people are asking INSANE prices for them:

What would I have to do to my truck if I bought the 99.5 from you?

Stick it in the truck and drive it.

But that's the same with any PCM I listed in my previous post.

Just make sure you actually NEED it first because if it doesn't fix the issue you're having (I'm not a big fan of just throwing parts at something hoping that it fixes the problem), I won't be held responsible...although I won't have any issue taking the computer back.

OK Now you got my curiosity going....
I also have an E99 with the XLE4 PCM.

Details on the "issues' and changes other than I would have to send in my DP for a reflash?

There are some calculations/conversion factors between the PCM families that don't play nice together at high RPM and you'll end up with codes for missing outputs like the intake air heater along with some problems between the internal barometric pressure sensor on the newer PCM while the old tuning is still working on inputs from an external sensor that the new PCM is not pinned for.

The truck will run and drive, just not correctly.
