Gentlemen, I am in the middle of removing my HPOP. I have the breaker bar on the 18mm fastener on the bolt that attaches the gear to the pump. Catch is I have an automatic! So the engine turns. Rats!
How do you guys hold the engine to keep it from rotating while removing the bolt and washer?
My HPOP pump is bleeding out the “Don’t Remove” plug. Diesel O-rings has me all fixed up with the parts for it and the fuel water separator rebuild.
Thank you for your time,
Don Smith

I just did this last weekend. I used a short pry bar in the teeth of the wheel and a 24 inch breaker bar. Reason I used the long bar was so I could lay across the passenger side battery and pull the breaker bar while holding the pry bar in place. Left hand on the pry bar, right hand on the breaker bar/socket. Worked like a charm!!!
I used a breaker bar with socket on the crankshaft bolt and positioned it so the bar was locked against the driver's side frame horn. That seemed to keep the engine from rotating while I was attempting to loosen the HPOP drive gear bolt.
I used an L-pry bar with the beveled edge inside the groove in hopes to get good contact. thanks to others suggestions. you could wrap some electical tape to help maring the housing and gear.
