truck jerks violently when tring to brake only when towing

Is it always with the same trailer? How old is the trailer/surge brake setup and when, if ever, was the trailer/system serviced last? That might help point people in the right direction to help. I'm wondering if the surge setup is doing an over braking, letting up, over braking dance. Not sure what else it could be besides no braking and causing your abs to lock up, but i'm pretty sure that would be more dramatic than just violent vibrations...

Welcome to FTE allpro, give a little more description,,, same trailer, ummm reading your post, large trailer w/surge brakes, AND 1 outta 3 with electric brakes?
Jerking violently,,, like being pushed, or are the trailer brakes set to sensitive, or, have you checked your hitch and re-tightened the bolts?
Welcome again, and add a bit more to your question and we will help all we can!

Two different larger trailers with electric brakes, brakes are new on both, the one trailer I have owned new, and it doesnt do it empty, I have played with the brake controller at diferent settings, I havent checked the bolts on the hitch but it has been doing it from day one (its does it off both hitchs goose and frame hitch now that I tink about it) 99% on goose I will I have also called the brake controller manufactor they had me play with the setting also.
Thank you

We need to know more about this violent jerk. Is it a side to side jerk, or does it feel like someone is pushing or maybe pulling on the back of the truck?
I would start by checking your connections between the truck and trailer. If the trailer brake signal is intermittent, and you crank up the gain, you might be experiencing the brakes on the trailer locking and unlocking, which will cause jerks..........but that is just a C-W-A guess.

Its a back and forth jerking. I can apply the brakes manually at the control and show the truck and trailer that way smoothly.
The jerking starts as you apply the brake pedal. As you continue to hole it down it starts slowly and inceases. If you let off and reapply it may not do it.
I have went as far as pulling the fuses for the ABS system to see if there was a conflict between the trailer and truck brakes.

you dont notice it at highway speed braking till the truck and trailer slows down.
thanks Bill
