Has anyone been successful in having the agreed value of their Excursion actually match what these Excursions are selling for?
I have a low mileage 7.3 Excursion, and the book value of these trucks as we all know is way less than they sell for.
State Farm refuses to raise the agreed value of the truck on my policy beyond what the used car price guides say it's worth.
In other words, they won't take more of my money to pay for more insurance.
Anyone have success in getting their insurance company to raise their trucks value? How did you do it? I tried showing copies of e bay sales etc of similar trucks without success.
This seems like something I should be looking into... The only reason I got mine so cheap was because it was rough around the edges. I think I could sell it for more than we bought it for but I don't know for sure... I will be calling my insurance tomorrow to find out.
Went through the same thing with GEICO, paid them more money to insure my truck for more money, then 20 days later, they "politely" send me a letter in the mail saying they won't insure my truck anymore
I politely called them and tried to work someout out, but I ended up having to raise hell, tell them to **** up a stick, and they could count on not getting any of my business or my family's in the future.
Know the feeling. got into an accident a couple years ago, not even my fault State Farm wanted to total it out and give me $6000 for the truck. Ended up working with the Body shop to drop the repair price from $4500 to $4100 and the insurance covered it. I am very careful with the truck only me and the wife drive it. Kids are out of luck another accident and I maybe **** out of luck.
I guess it's time to call my Safeco rep. We got shafted when a teenage girl ran a stop sign and hit our Sebring convertible and the insurance totaled it and they valued it way below what it cost us to replace it.
What you need is an 'Agreed Value' policy. Shop around. You are damn right they would never give you what its worth based on 'book value'. I made sure my dually had adequate coverage after rebuilding the engine, replacing the transmission, etc, etc...
My experience is that the customers in general most insurance companies want to keep are those that stay with the same company. Well, and that don't have a lot of claims of course. As long as you aren't switching companies all of the time my experience is that the adjusters will tend to give you the benefit of the doubt in disputes as long as you have some good backup for your claim.
This is where finding a good agent & company and sticking with them pays off in the long run. You may pay a little more but when you have a large claim it will more than pay for itself. Also when adding non-standard coverage such as replacement cost they are more likely to provide it.
Another consideration is to ask around any local classical car groups and see who they use. Those companies/agencies would have more experience coverage of uncommon vehicles.
A few years ago I had an 00 PSD Excursion that we lost in a fire. At the time any PSD Excursions were selling for way over book, especially in the Rocky Mountain states. I went round and round with Hartford and they would not give me what true market value was. Well a couple of years later I got a letter in the mail about a class action lawsuit against Hartford for stiffing clients for less than market values on totaled vehicles. Hartford lost. I went in on it and got a lousy $100.00. I am sure the lawyers are in the Bahamas right now living off their portion HA! Anyways, I think if you can prove what PSD Excursions are selling for I woudl think they should insure for that.
