NEED HELP

I just got my new 351-c fired and it appears to be pumping fuel back from the carb toward the fuel tank. This may sound dumb but the feed from the tank goes to the forward fitting on the pump (fitting for a hose and clamp) and the rearward fitting (with the 5/16 inverted flare) should go to the carb. Is this correct? Sure seems like it should be.

For anybody who reads this, we found the internal check valves in the fuel pump are sticking and allowing the fuel pressure to feed back to the tank. I disconnected the fuel pump, filled the float bowls with gas and it runs perfectly. New fuel pump will be here tomorrow Thanks anyway
