Just bought a new fuel filter in my hesitaton/ tune up quest. I know I can get it off on my own but I may brave this in the snow so does anyone know a trick to disconnect it without a special tool. Would like to make this short and sweet as its freezing rain today.
I had that tool once and think I lost it over the years cuz I never need it. Gonna look in the shed now. I actually found a basic youtube video and remember what it looks like. Thanks. Wasn't sure if fords were the same as other ones I did.
well took a couple nips, and changing my clothes to lay in slush, I got the disconnect tool and off to change the filter. Let everyone know if it fixes my hesitation... doubt it, probly a darn coil. After this I will be removing my coils one at a time with my extra coil and replacing them with my spare coil till the problem stops (hopefully). I basically did a ridiculous tune up on every possible part, but don't mind because the truck is new to me and god knows what the previous guy really did. It really will boil this down to injectors (but did seafoam), or coils.... wish me luck got to love this winter lol.
So I tried for about 45 minutes and could not seem to get the filter disconnected with the tool.
First identify the correct fuse for the fuel pump. Then start the engine and remove the fuse. Wait for the engine to stall, as this will relieve all pressure in the fuel line. When you go to use the tool, press the fuel line in towards the filter to take pressure off the connector, push the tool in and pull the fuel line back.
It's a pretty easy job. There's several How-To videos on YouTube if you want to view them. You may have to spray some PB Blaster into the coupling to free it up if the filter's never been changed before. There's just a spring in there you're trying to spread with the tool. You should feel it click. On the second Gen Expods they started using button release couplings, no more tool required. If you don't have a DTC code reader I highly recommend them for anyone doing their own vehicle maintenance. http://www.ebay.com/bhp/actron-9580a
I did the Expo a couple of months ago and the Mustang last week. They take a little pressure while twisting to remove, make sure you get the tool under the lip, have rags ready and wear safety glasses.
Did it help I'm having this hesitation problem also I've already replaced the plugs an wires cleaned my EGR an it still has the stumble when accelerating so my next option is the filter
Didnt help hesitation got to be a coil as far as I can tell. Now that the weather improving going to buy a coil and hop in down the cylinders till it fixes the problem.

Save the headache and buy all 8 cops off ebay for under 100, and change the plugs with OE MOTORCRAFT while you're in there
