I was wondering if anyone has any plans for a 10" Kenwood sub to fit into a 1979 Ford F150 Custom cab behind the seat. Also if anyone could tell me a decent amp to use.
I got an old amp off of a friend of my dads for free along with 2 6X9's (one is in pretty bad shape, other is good) and a deck, so i cannot complain. Have the 1 good 6X9 on the amp at the moment and i have 2 5 1/4" Koss MSPS5 (120W) speakers in the doors running straight from the deck. Works pretty well.
Was wondering if i should get better and/or more speakers (the 2 un-amped 5 1/4 and 1 6X9 behind the seat) and if/what amp i should run with those. And as i first said the plans for the previously stated sub to go behind the seat
EDIT: checked the amp and all i could find was "coustic" and it has "AMP 120" under that (i am assuming that means it puts out 120 watts?) and the one 6X9 is a poineer 3 way speaker TS-6966 150W.
Budget is looking at fairly cheap. Couple hundred $'s canadian. May increase or decrease (have nothing atm but am working finally but i need to put some money away first b 4 i spend on my system)
If you want it to sound better, get better gear. A broken 6x9, Koss coaxes,...ick. Seeing as you have a job, I would just save up. It may take a while, but it will be worth it. Trash the 6x9's and Koss speakers. Both are no good. If you really wanted to go on the cheap, here's what I would do
-Pioneer HU ~$150
-Infinity Reference coaxials for the front ~$60
-Keep your current sub
-Make your own box (for a 10", I would assume .85-.95 cuft sealed would work). Just take a few measurements of the room you have, and build the box accordingly.
-Bridge the Coustic amp to power the Kenwood sub. Coustic used to make pretty good stuff. If that amp is one of the older ones, it should move the Kenwood nicely.
That's about $210, U.S. currency, if purchased online. I would suggest buying better gear all around. But if you want to spend as little as possible, and make use of what you have currently, this would provide a decent little setup. Don't expect TOO much, though.
I agree Koss is autozone brand i think. u'd be better getting walmart brand then Koss. Did you want to spend for a system or just make what u have work?
Well as of right now i have no money to work with so if you have any idea's on something to do till i get some money (around mid septemberi will have the most that i can dedicate to a system)
Luvdeftonz, u say .85-.95 cuft. would anything be good/worse to going to just plain 1 cuft? Also so far i have spent 20$'s on my entire system. the koss speakers were from my dad, the amp, deck, and 2 6X9's were all free from a friend and i got the sub for 20$ off a good friend who needed money fast for car payments :P
Also since i am a fairly large newb, the ..
-Pioneer HU ~$150 would be ??
-Infinity Reference coaxials for the front ~$60 would be speakers
and how would i bridge my amp?
If you have the space and just want to make a fast box, 12" square will give you 1 cubic foot. You should see how to bridge you amp right on the amp if it's bridgeable.
Usually, on a 2 channel amp, to bridge, you hook the pos of the sub to the pos on the left channel of the amp and the neg of the sub to the neg on the right channel. And 1 cubic foot will probably suffice with that sub.
The Pionner DEH-1500 is $130 at Crutchfield.com. That's US dollars, and I don't know what shipping/tax/and other fees are added when shipped to Canada.
The Infinity Reference 5.25" coaxials (Reference 5002i) are $100 at Crutchfield. They around $60 at Ikesound.com
You might want to check around for Canadian based online car audio shops. You might save quite a bit.
I would reccomend buying the CD player at Crutchfield. They give you all the harnesses you'll need, a diagram with step by step directions on how to install it, and if you get stuck, they will help with detailed instructions. Check out their site and read up on their Canadian shipment options.
