99 F250 with 5.4L Triton....189,000 miles. Developed horrible rod knock and locked up within 15 miles (presumed to be rod bearings).
So what do I do? Cut my losses and buy another truck? Find a used 5.4 engine and tranny and do a swap? Or buy a new crate and swap it.
I can find used engines or 800-1200, but then I'm looking at a ton of labor cost to do the swap (I'm told you need to pull the cab off to pull it out)
Truck is not a DD only a tow vehicle, and the truck is in exceptional shape for a 99.
Thanks
Why do you say motor and trans? You do NOT have to take off the cab for this if I remember correctly all you have to do is remove the intake. Depeding on how nice the truck is I would probably find a used motor and stick it in there. You probably will have to swap some stuff over from you motor depending on what the donor came from. With a few tools you should be able to do this swap in a weekend.
