Time to upgrade/replace suspension?

I'm driving a 2000 F250 V10 CCSB with about 167000 miles. As far as I know, the suspension hasn't been replaced in any way. It seems like my front end sags way lower than most other 250s I see driving around town. I don't know if any of the other drivers have their trucks leveled, but I feel like my truck shouldn't sit quite this low, particularly the front end. My truck has the towing package on it, so i guess they make the front end a bit lower so it levels out when there is a load in the bed, but I'm not sure just how low that is supposed to be.

On a possibly related note, it sounds like every time I hit a bump, there is a rattle or a kind of clunking sound coming from the front passenger side. I noticed that it looks like that side also sits a tad lower than the drivers side. (I haven't measured with a tape measure yet) There isn't a bunch of excess play in the steering wheel while I drive, the tie rod ends were recently replaced, and I recently just had the steering aligned as well. Thanks for any input!

Ryan

And here are a couple pictures to kind of help illustrate what I'm talking about.

I will try to get a picture later, and some measurements to see if there is any difference between the front driver/passenger height.

The rattle/clunking sound is probably the sway bar end links. Is your truck 4wd or 2wd?

Either you're really tall, or it's sagged quite a bit. I'm sure others will confirm this.
I'm 5'11" and standing next to the truck the hood is to my chest, stock height. Probably a poor indicator of heights, but that's what I know.

X2 on the sway bar end links

Your truck does sit really low... that's why I asked about 4x4 vs 2x4... 2wd trucks do sit lower, but that sucker is loooooow.

It is a 2WD. And wbrook, I am 5'11" as well, so that is a pretty good comparison.

Check the swaybar bushings as well as the end links. Had them rattle and produce the noise/scenario you mentioned.

A 2wd is gonna sit lower, its just how it is. I wouldn't think anything up there is worn out necessarily but if you want it up a little higher I'd have to recommend a spring spacer leveling kit. Cheap easy and you know how much its gonna lift it.

Would it be worth it to level it, and lift the whole thing a couple inches as well? I know that's mostly personal preference. I like a truck that you have to climb into, but nothing ridiculously high. Eventually, I'd like some different tires, maybe a little larger. I'm not sure what the stock size is. Would larger tires, effectively lift the truck an inch or two (in addition to leveling the front end)?

Thanks for all the help!

put a leveling kit up front, f350 block in back and 285/75 or 265/75 tires. It'll look sweet.

Thanks TenHoles! What exactly is an f350 block?

When I get a chance to put my truck up on stands and work on it, I'll post pictures and what the solution to the noise was. I don't have a set of jackstands or a jack up here at school with me yet.

F-250's have a 2" block in the rear between the spring and the axle.

F-350's have a 4" block.

Thanks drey. That would look pretty cool. Any idea how much those would run/where I can find a set (new or used)?

I changed my ball joints and steering links at about the same mileage, my ball joints were really in need. I bit the bullet and replaced the both front hubs as well as the front right bearing was a bit sloppy.

Cheapest would be a junk yard, 4x4 truck shop, or someone here on FTE.

Or you can get new blocks online from just about any truck parts site.

Just for an example... I put these 5" blocks in my truck: http://www.readylift.com/c-135-ford-...block-kit.aspx

That price isn't bad at all, drey. Does it matter that my truck is 2WD and this kit is for 4WD?

I don't think it matters... your truck's rear suspension set-up should be the same as a 4x4... yeah the price isn't too bad, you get brand new u-bolts, nuts, blocks, everything you need.
