Nothing screamed "plain jane city or fleet purchase utility beater" quite like a longbed stepside did back in the day. We have some old 8mm family movies of my Grandfather's '65 or '66 lb step F series pulling out of the driveway.
I'm finding out how hard it is to keep a truck nice. I got the truck back from paint on valentines day, and I've already found two spots missing paint that I have no idea how the scratches got there.... Kinda irritates me

That's my big fear on the Pumpkin. Once I paint it, some moron will come along and scratch it, "What's the big deal? It's 'just' an old truck" .
I amazes me how careless and uncaring people are when it's not their stuff!
For the Pumpkin, I think parking lots are going to be a big no-no .
Mine has only left the garage a handful of times (waiting on clear roads). But I'm at college 5 days a week and I don't know what goes on during the week....
8' Flare sides are cool....I had one for a project a few years back, but sadly sold it after I got rid of the truck. Mine didn't have those tail light guards.
I have to admit, its unique, I like it too now. The majority of those 8 fters I saw from the '60s-'70s seemed like were owned by the water works or the City somehow, they got used hard, not many survived.
