I was at Good Guys today trying to get ideas for a center console. I've seen the ones made out of like MDF board but there were some there that looked like painted metal; but I didn't know what it was. Is it like stainless, aluminum, or just plain steel? Any clue?
Consoles and interior trim pieces could be made out of any material the fabricator is comfortable using. You're only limited by your own imagination and talent.
Were you looking at the aftermarket suppliers booths or at installs in vehicles?
I made mine out of steel electrical conduit tubing and aluminum with a brushed stainless face. I built a waterfall style from the dash stopping short of the seats. I didn't want mine to run between the seats to allow a walk thru to access the rear area of the panel from the front. There are pictures of the console build in my gallery. The aluminum sides will be covered in carpet.

I too built the console with tubing and sheet metal although it was later body worked and painted to match the dash/interior. Also houses the window switches, cup holders and A/C controls. There is a construction picture in my "dash panel" gallery and a picture in paint under "top cutz" There is also a matching roof console. Hope they help
