Power window Door lock conversion

I just got done converting my 90 f350 to power windows and door locks thanks to a junkyard 250. At the same time I replace the egr tub on the 460 that powers the truck.

tonight when I fired it up i notice no oil pressure in the oil pressure gauge and the alt gauge showing no discharge or charge. Should be charging very high as the battery was dead yesterday and I had it on the charger to day for a couple of hours so it would start.

Anyway I thought I would pose the question tonight before I tackle the problem tomorrow with a haynes manual. Are those 2 gauges on a fuse? What would make them both go out at once. They were working fine before the conversion.

Thanks.

Jack

Your oil pressure guage is not a true gauge. It's a fake thing that Ford installed at the factory. They used a oil pressure switch instead of a sending unit, and put a resistor in the cluster near the gauge to make the gauge read in the center of the scale. So if you have 10 lbs of pressure, the gauge reads in the middle. If you have 20, 30 , 40, the gauge always reads in the middle. If you have less than 5lbs, the gauge will read zero.

In other words, what I am trying to say is when you lost the factory oil pressure gauge, you didn't really lose anything worth having. You should have a real pressure gauge installed under the dash , along with a good temp gauge also.

In a 1990 truck you should have a voltmeter not a ammeter that shows charge/discharge correct? Did you have the cluster out of the truck, or where you really pushing wires around up behind the dash? If so, I suspect one of the plugs that goes in the back of the cluster is not seated correctly.

It ended up being a fuse. I still have a problem of the passenger side door lock not locking the doors. It will open the doors but not lock them. Might be a grounding problem but I can live with it.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Probably a bad lock switch on the passenger side.
