I am stumped, trailer lights have never worked on my f150 4.6L 4x4.... thought it was my trailer but hooking that directly to a battery resulted in ok wiring on the trailer (brake and turn signals) when I hook this to the truck harness I only get power lights, no turn signals or brake lights.
I dropped the spare tire and followed the harness back to a relay. I removed the relay and tested this with a volt meter but didn't get any positive results. When the harness is removed from the relay will voltage still travel the line to the relay? I cant seem to get any votlage readings...?
When I test the green and yellow lines directly on the harness I get no results yet turn signals and brake lights work on the truck.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My boat has been sitting because I am too afraid to tow it down the road for fear of a ticket from our local gestapo
Ford wisely has seperate fuses for the trailer wiring so that it doesn't take out the truck lights too as trailers will more often have shorts.
There are several fuses in the fuse box that have to do with the trailer harness, and they are probably blown. For whatever reason, ford can't print the fuse location identification in the fuse box itself, so if you don't have an owners manual, list your year and we'll see what we can do!
The fuses for the trailer lights are located in the power distribution box under the hood left side near hinge. Open box and check the mini blade fuses, I think they are red 10 amp fuses.
That last post did it!!!! I did find the box that is not listed in the owners manual and the fuse was blown. Changed the 20 amp fuse and the trailer lights work as should!! Thank you all for your advice as that is what fixed the problem!!!!!! I will recommend this site to any ford truck owner, again thanks
