I have a problem with my tranny. It is a 1998 ford ranger XLT Supercab 4x4 with a 4R44E. My problem is I have no 1st gear and no overdrive....at all. Also, in order to drive it, I have to manually shift it from 2 to D. It will not shift on its own. The gears that do work work fine, no hard shift or delay. Fluid looks good and tranny is full. I have consulted many sources from trans shops to the dealer, all have different opinions. Some say broken band, some say forward direct clutch, some say valve body, some say the selector on side of trans, and quite a few say it's the trucks computer. I am trying to isolate the issue instead of replace everything they say and still have the same issue. The O/D light works as it should, it has never blinked. Reverse is perfect. I have no clue how to isolate the problem... any ideas?
yes..... no codes supposedly. they r the ones that told me it was a broken band. dealer says no because of the configuration of gears that don't work. its frustrating......
i have a 1999 ranger 3.0 4x4 automatic the truck has a delay when put into drive sometimes it slips at take off unless i force it to downshift and stay in first and from second to third gear it shifts very hard at around 3500 rpm would an oil and filter change help i do not have the cash for a new trans and i cant afford a new truck i love my little ranger

You should start a new thread rather than resurrecting one that is 2 years old.
