Hi there, I'm getting a little work done on my '85 Bronco and find my self with a severed prndl line-wire. Has anyone had any success repairing these or is the FOrd eom part the only fix?
Hopefully someone will chime in soon with more concrete instructions, but a little tip of advice to throw in, when you install the new one (or repair the old, whatever works out best), make sure it is free of the electrical wiring and the column shroud, mine is caught up and sometimes takes a little tapping on the plastic for the needle to drop into the right place (not that it matters, the transmission shifts fine, gets a little hairy if you don't know if you're in Park or Reverse though ).
I have taken small fishing line and repaired them before. The needle just slides in a groove and is spring loaded. The string just pulls on the needle when the column twists. The tricky part is getting it the right length so the needle sits on the right letter in the window.
I appreciate the come-back, The PO had cut the tubing for some reason, so I may try some type of fix I guess..
I'd rather try that instead of the 60$ or so for the first try I think.
I have also taken them out of other cars and used those for parts. I had one from a Granada that I used to repair one in a truck. Once you get into fixing it, you realize how hokey the whole rig is, but all car manufacturers used this sort of thing back then.

That's good to know, most of the dash assemblies are gone from my local u-pullit form PU's and Broncos. I'll have to follow up on that option.
There is a little bit of adjustment available, but not much. The screw that holds it fits in a slot so you can adjust about the distance from one letter to another.

EOTZ-7A110-B .. Transmission Indicator Assy / Available from Ford
MSRP: $77.83 / FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor horizonpartsguy.com price: $56.04 / Horizon Ford Truck Center ~ Seattle (Tukwila) WA
I actually found the website and called the folks there. It turns out that actually ordering form the website may be the only way to get that price? (The guy on the phone could only sell it retail to me even after the introduction.)
But a great contact though and we'll most likely take advantage.

Yes, that's the way it worked for me, too, when I bought a fuel pump from them (I think it was them, may have been another Ford dealer who is also a sponsor here)....

Did you speak with Wyatt? He handles the FTE orders.
Click on Marketplace at the top of this page, then Sponsors. First listing is partsguyed (Horizon Ford), now known as horizonpartsguy.
Ed was the parts manager of Horizon Ford, had a stroke 1/2011, was forced to retire.
As Chris said, there are other FTE Ford Dealer sponsors, but Horizon is the closest to you, something to consider when paying shipping charges.

I didn't know who to ask for but I'll do that when I'm ready to order. I normally prefer to do that on the phone when meeting a new vendor if possible to save making myself a new online account etc if possible. I usually like to verify if the part is actually on the shelf etc before sending cc#'s even on a "secure" page. But it's all good, they were nice one the phone just were NOT aware who FTE was at least according to the guy I got..but no matter..good contact anyway.
FYI I have used the "rear counter website a lot in the past as well. Generally some NOS parts guys have listings there. I happened to find this parts number for $53.71 out of Texas from a guy I have ordered from before..and he was also very flexible on shipping but I haven't decided yet..Would like to support a supporter here as well..

You didn't speak with Wyatt, that's for damn sure. I was there in person (July 2011), spoke with him and have spoken with him on the phone several times since.
You'll find faaar more sources on PartsVoice.com. Some obsolete parts sellers are listed on both rearcounter & PV, some are only listed on one.
But, PV has 100's of Ford Dealers listed.
NOS PARTS LTD Waxahachie TX = rearcounter only. Owner bought Ed Bennett Ford Parts in Lebanon PA and is buying out JST AUTOMOTIVE in Lebanon TN (both were listed on PV).
NOS PARTS WAREHOUSE Farmers Branch TX = rearcounter aka PARTS INTERNATIONAL (888-727-0418) on PV aka KINSEL L/M (800-816-2894) = Ford Dealer Parts Locator System.
btw: Horizon doesn't have the indicator, so it'll have to be ordered. Portland OR Ford Parts Depot has 4 .. so it'll only take a coupla days.
In a rush? BICKFORD MOTORS in Snohomish has 1 (800-527-1101) & WENDLE FORD in Spokane has 2 (800-633-2010).
btw, part II: When there is a zero (0) as the 2nd digit of the p/n prefix, it can also be typed as the letter O. You'll find more parts using O than 0.
I appreciate the tips..especially parts voice. I have Parts intl in my rolodex..
The Ford dealer a few miles from me has been where I bought new vehicles in 88 and 89..and I can get a decent quote from Butch over there (ashland..Butler Ford)..I was into Turbo'ed 2.3's and bought quite a bit from Butch then a few years ago..since I'm into these older cars now I kinda hate to call him all the time for part numbers that will take a lot of research w/o buying from him..but with gas prices these days..(It's 25 miles round trip to go there..)I buy online when I can and get it drop shipped if possible..
Number dummy thanks for the help..may you always be able to keep those number straight..I know everyone appreciates it.

Do your own research: 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog available on a CD from hipoparts.com
When you see parts catalog text & pics posted in this forum, either by Chris (ctubutis) or Gary Lewis, they've been scanned from this exact same CD catalog.
Why don't I do this? My '80/89 parts catalog is on microfiche.
Speaking of turbo's, first rolling pile of misery I've owned with one listed in my sig. I've owned a few old rolling piles of misery factory Supercharged (notaFord) cars in the past.
