Multiple Codes 98 F-150
Multiple Codes 98 F-150
Hi I've got a '98 F-150 4.6L 4x4 automatic transmission single cab flareside blah blah.. ran fine when I first started driving it then had some sputtering thought maybe bad gas..couple days went by and the check engine light came on. I visit my local autozone and borrow a scanner and I came up with 6 codes. One for P1000, one for P0455 and four for P0304. Basically 4 codes for misfire on cylinder 6, one for an EVAP leak and one for the PCM not completing a cycle. I first noticed this after a fillup at a gas station and my first thought was bad gas. I put some HEET in the tank and didnt notice any improvement. As far as actual performance the truck will run fine and then start losing power and sputtering and I have to step on the gas to get it back to speed. This happens a lot on hills but will happen any time. At first just stepping on the gas would clear it up but it got to a point that it just ran like crap. The last day it has been running more on the good side than bad but will still hesitate and sputter and theres a noticeable lack of power. This has been going on for a week now. I was wondering if anyone had had a similar experience or combination of codes that could give me some direction to head as tracking down every bit of the EVAP seems daunting. Thanks for any help.
Fix the misfire on #4 (P0304), ignore the rest for now. Fairly typical behavior for a bad COP. Once the misfire is repaired, reset the PCM and drive the vehicle normaly for several days to see what happens.
A P1000 code is completely normal for a period of time after the PCM has been reset. It will go away once all self-test monitors have run successfully.
The P0455 might be something as simple as a gas cap that didn't seal correctly. It has nothing to do with the misfire.
