Factory tach ---- Pricey

Check this out;

Original 1956 Ford Mercury F100 M100 Tachometer Also 1953 1954 1955 Truck F 100 | eBay

Pretty danged cool and I'd love to have one but, Holy Cow!! they are wanting more for this tach than what I paid for my whole truck.

I'm going to watch this auction just to see what it goes for

BTW, one just sold 2 weeks or so ago on eBay for $100, and one a couple of weeks before that for $160. I paid less than both of those for mine.

Tack's

Ok all five of my trucks have that, and probably five more in the file cabinet.
So thats $10,000? I dont think so. The evilbay guys got it wrong its
more like $50 for the tack and $1000 for a distrubutor. The distrubutor
is the biggie and are few and far inbetween. If anyone wants a tack
which is Pretty, for small Y blocks a very pricey Thunderbird dist. for
FE engines HD330 & 391Fts if you can find one, and for popular 302's
up to 460s I know of none (dist with tack drive) Big Y blocks you can
use 57 (368) Turnpike Cruiser, If you can find one. And for the Chevy
guys Corvett lots of those around. But wait there is hope, a tack drive
driven off the Crank (front) damper/pulley bolt thats a marine item..

Yes, they were driven off the distributor. I converted mine though.

There was a tach that sold a couple of weeks ago for $25 on eBay. I don't have a link.

Here are the two tachs that sold that I posted about earlier:

I'm actually running an old Dixco (I think thats what it is). For now, I like the looks and will probably hang onto it but if I stumbled on a factory tach for what I paid for this old Dixco (it was a freebie) I'd be tempted

No, they are not the same. The faces are similar, but the needles are different. For the '53 - '56 they also mount in the dash not the cluster and you will need the bezel to be correct. Here is the one in my '54:

And here are is one in a '56:

And here you can see the bezel:

Also unless you convert it to electronic you will need to also get the drive cable and distributor.

Also I've been told the white numbers are for a '56, and the green numbers are for the slant cabs. The pictures show both colors in a '56 so I have never been able to verify it...

Oh, so you're not going for something "correct" - by that I mean stock '56.

It should work good for your application.

As far as I know they were only in the big trucks.
