Solenoid Eater
Hi, I have a 1997 powerstroke. It likes to eat starter solenoids. This will be my 4th one in about 7 years. It starts out where the starter/solenoid will not disengae when i turn the key back to the off position if the truck does not start within a couple seconds.(usually happens when it is real cold outside.) Then eventually it will not engage when i try to start the truck. If I zap it from my battery to the small post on the solenoid it will usually start with the key. I thought maybe it was that i was buying junk ones from auto zone/ o' reilly etc.. but I went to Ford and they want to sell me the whole starter. Will not sell me just a solenoid. Do I need to bite the bullet and replace the whole starter or is there any other way to get this to stop happening.
