I am towing a 27 ft. camper with a 5.8L Chateau Club Wagon, 1996. I bought the Hypertech Power Programmer III because the program can be removed or modified easily. Don't expect a huge difference as the motor only is "on" the program at 3/4 and WOT. The big benefit to me was the ability to increase line pressure in the transmission which results in less slippage and a firmer shift. This should prolong the life of the E4OD which is a very durable tranny anyway.
If you are curious, I am getting around 8 miles to the gallon towing through the hills and mountains. I may crack 9.5 when babying it on flat terrain. That's with K&N air filter and 30x9.5 Michelin LTX (lt rated) which are about 3/4 of an inch taller than the stock tires. I also installed a Flowmaster Stainless Steel muffler that's got a nice rumble, but not too loud inside the vehicle.
