I was replacing the front door hinge springs on my 1970 F-250 (the new springs are much stiffer than the old ones... too stiff, in fact), and became frustrated after about 45 minutes of prying (with various screwdrivers) and pulling (with needle nose Vise Grips). I knew there must be a better way.
After a few minutes of head scratching, I decided to try a piece of light-duty chain and a turnbuckle. It turned into a 5 minute job for each side.
Thank goodness the springs on my back doors haven't broken, because those door jambs don't have the access holes. It appears those doors would have to be removed to replace the springs.
I'll post some pics once I figure out how to do that from my phone.
