Are there any tell-tale signs that my IP or injectors have never been replaced? 93 N/A 7.3 IDI with 196000 miles. Injectors have gray paint on them.
If I were to replace them would it be better to go with Ford/Motorcraft injectors or with the matched ones from R&D? I plan to install a turbo in the near future and want everything in best order before going that route.
If you plan on a turbo soon, I'd highly suggest to do a full tune up first. New IP, injectors and even 8 new glow plugs, cause once your turbo is on, some of the glow plugs will be almost impossible to reach.
And yes, *most* of the time new injectors will kill an old IP. Happened to my twice in both my 6.9's
But my 7.3 has 377,000 miles on the original IP, and it survived 3 sets of injectors.....
What is important about injectors, is that they are tested for pop pressure and atomization. R&D does this for you, he also matches sets for pop pressure. If you buy any other set, especially a bargain set, I highly recommend that you have them pop tested before installation. It is not expensive. I even had one shop do it for me for free. Injectors and pumps are both wear items, and recommended replacement intervals are every 100k miles and together. Whether new injectors kill your tired pump or not, you will not be operating efficiently with the old pump.
no no.don't take it wrong please.help me understand.why would you send a guy there with a turbo boosting stock 7-10 psi let alone one looking for an n/a ip such as this guy?
i mean no disrespect.
Who says you have to be layin down 400hp to have good injectors? Theyre just a high quality set of matched sticks. Im not sure if he offers a stock replacement pump, however thats something an email or a phone call could remedy pretty quickly.
