My first dentside
The day I picked it up..

and long journey I have been on with her since...
Quick note*
I have a friend who is a true "ol timer" that while he "let" me do all the work due to him not being able to help dealing with lung cancer, he was by my side directing me in his own unique way...

I myself have not had any previous experience with mechanics in any capacity.
On to the fun stuff..
This truck came with all the homemade fixins as I would find out....
Pulled out the carpet, replaced boot and had seat redone. Sanded down, filled in the holes with fiberglass then undercoat. Had to replace all door seals and fix both windows to make operational again.

The seat done and ready to be installed

Front begins
new cam shaft, lifters, oil pump, fuel pump, brake booster, dizzy, coil, water pump etc.... steering box rebuilt, new hoses, belts getting broke by now

Needed a new axle....found that. Replaced all the U joints on the truck as well. Also new locking hubs. Drive shaft had to be rebuilt, all shocks replaced(getting to know the local salvage yards very well by now)dropped the tank and cleaned it out, new sending unit etc...

Switched out the headers

Added some valve covers, a new manifold and a holley 4150 some springs here, bolts there and replaced all the old exhaust and mufflers..bunch of other stuff but can't remember atm)

While the end result was far from any reasonably trained mechanic I am quite proud of my truck as I can say at least "yeah, I did that".

Still got a few little things that I need to get settled but I am starting to see the light.
Thanks for looking.

I have an issue when I start up the truck and drive it , it has no issues but after I turn it off to go into a store and come back out(15 minutes or more) it will not want to hold idle well, Have to adjust the choke to keep it steady and the engine will hunt at times and it will bog down when pushing down on the accelerator. Also when turning the wheel in park the engine wants to cuts off.(this does not happen on the initial drive) In the summer time it was horrible to the point it was not drivable after turning it off for more than 10-15 minutes but during the winter months it is not nearly as bad. I have the fuel line wrapped in heat shielding material thinking the headers were heating up the line but it has not seemed to made any difference.
I have also noticed when I shut the engine off the temp will rise and after starting the engine and driving again the temp will drop in the cold weather and it will recover much quicker from the issues. I don't want to go through this again in the summer with the truck having fits in the heat every time I try to leave a parking lot. I have thought about putting in new fuel lines and re-routing them to keep them away from the engine as I'm guessing they are just getting too hot..
Any suggestions?
