when i bought my truck, 77 4x4 f150 400ci, it has a dual oil fiter setup. i honestly done understand the use of the system other than my oil remains very clean for long periods of time. my problem im running into is that the connection to the block is leaking tremendously. thought bout taking it all off and just installing a single filter, i wont be pulling with this truck. its mainly for running around town and a little offroading. the other problem im seeing is the hoses. a potentioal hose rupture could be catastrophic if uncaught so that worries me a little bit since i dont know the age of the hoses and they are all covered in oil and dirt. what do you guys suggest? keep the setup? or just remove it all together and just go with a single unit?
the truck also has a 4inch lift and 35 inch all terrain tires.
Stock works fine, just go back to that. I've got a couple friends that like to put dual filters on just because it looks "tougher". To me it's retarded unless you have a real reason for installing it. For you, just normal use, one is fine.
Dual filters look "high performance" but for a DD rig I'd go ahead and simplify it with a single, engine-mounted filter.
Oil still gets old and acidic over time so there is little benefit to having two filters for a DD. All it does is the cost of another filter to an oil change.
no im fine with the capacity. previous owner installled a milodon 8 qt oil pan. so i think im good. probably gonna have to change it out becuase the headers rub against it. bent the headers out a little but still a little close for my comfort.
