My 1997 F150 was running fine, then check engine light came on at the same time it began to run rough, especially during accelation.
Had engine code checked, said it was misfire on cylinder 6. Pulled the wire from #6 and it ran less rough.
So I pulled the plug and examined it. Had ash deposit under plug and on tip with no sign of oil or other problem. Pulled other plugs, they were clean. Replaced plug on #6 with new one, same symptoms.
I suspect plugged fuel injector. Is there any other possibility? Also, why does the check engine light flash when driving and steady when stopped?
Not yet. Pulled the injector this afternoon. Didn't see anything notable. Filled with carburator cleaner and operated, it drained fine. Maybe wiring or plug wire is what is wrong unless the injector fails under pressure or is not providing a proper spray.
Will try plug wire next. Might as well try something simple.
