What to look for in a 93 F150

Hey Guys,

My buddy is going to buy a 93 F150 this weekend for around $350 its a single cab (i believe short bed) Eddie Bauer edition with a ZF5 and it looks ok it has the wheel well rust etc. All he wants is the Bumpers for is 93 F150 SCLB, and he offered the truck to me if i wanted it for $100. Is there anything i should watch out for that is a definite no don't buy it situation? My plans were to make it a 4x4 project eventually maybe drop a 4BT into it and lift it etc. He said that he thinks it needs a brake line and he doesn't remember but the A frame might be messed up. I'm planning on making it a beater while i fix some stuff with my 04 F250 so if somethings broken I'll just weld something on in its place etc to keep it going. Does this sound like it might be worth it?

$100? Hell, even if it's got a broken frame and no motor it's worth at least $100 in scrap. If it's a complete truck (minus the bumpers, obviously) I'm not sure how you can wrong for a single Benjamin.

Grab it and go. In my neck of the woods you could strip it and still sell whats left for scrap and get $250 plus have everything to sell

That's exactly what I've been thinking, and Ill just try and jerry rig the frame or weld something in its place or something. It would be my beater until i get my 04 rust issues taken care of and then I'm thinking of lifting it and making it a 4x4 project. I'm gonna teach myself to weld and make some bumpers lol

If it's a ZF5, it was swapped-in, that ain't stock for a 150. Look for a large diamond pattern on the case reinforcement ribs, then it's a ZF.

A ZF5 tranny is worth a few hundred just as a core, more if it works, but it's likely a M5OD.

Probably is a M5OD sorry i don't know much about these trucks iI'm more of a 99-current super duty guy lol. I talked to a kid at school and he just said yeah that's the ZF5 in it. Which got me all excited but still I want to teach my self to drive a stick so I'm happy either way.

How hard is it to convert these trucks to 4WD? is it as simple as swap the axle and add the transfer case of does the tranny need to be changed as well?

Well i picked her up last night! I was mistaken when i first started this thread its a 95 F150 Eddie Bauer edition with 4x4 and everything. It all works, needs 1 brake line, door lock cylinders, e brake cable is broken i think and the broken "frame" part is actually the spring bucket on the passenger side so its an easy fix. I ended up paying $200 for it because my buddy had to pay a little more than originally planned but all in all i still got it cheap. How much are brake lines for these guys usually?

Dang, if it runs you stole that thing. A fully functioning 4x4 is worth around $1000 in my neck of the woods.

Rather than get individual lines, I would suggest buying a flaring tool if you don't already have one, and a small spool of 3/16" tubing. In the end you'll save money. I have two 93's and the brake lines have been replaced all over on both of them. Salt eats up the stock lines. The replacement tubing will have coating that prevents the corrosion from salt. With the spool and flaring tool, you can replace any line, exactly the right length. If you decide on the 4X4 conversion (and I am very much NOT recommending that) you may have to reroute brake lines.

Is there an APB out for your arrest? Vehicle theft is a serious crime ya know.

Just be careful about throwing money at it. If the body/frame are in need of help, it could turn into a time/money pit.

Haha I got it legally, its stock 4x4 so I'm not converting it and it works perfect. My GF's dad is a mechanic and he said that's what he does for the brake lines I just wasn't sure what to expect for the cost.

Pre-flared brake lines will run you 7-15 bucks. About the price of a flaring tool. You will need to get adapters for one end though since ford likes to use different sized fittings on each end, those will run you another buck.

So here's my update, brake lines are in it was the right front and rear. The passenger side spring perch had totted through and the spring punched through it, that's fixed now. Also new flex hoses and front shocks. All new parking brake cables minus the linkage between the intermediate cable and the cable that goes to the pedal. Does anyone have a part number on that? Also my left blinker doesn't work and the right one seems really slow. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking the relay of so any recommendations? Also have a few cluster lights out which should be an easy fix.
