Later model gas tank in 78, 79 bronco

I'm looking at doing a fuel injection swap into my 78 bronco and was wondering if anyone knew if a tank from a late 80's bronco would fit in the stock location. My local scrapyard has a later fuel injected bronco with the in-tank pump and everything that I can get, but its sitting in a big mud hole that makes getting measurements difficult. Anyone ever done this?

Hello, I am doing this same swap presently. What did you come up with back then? I haven't had an opportunity to compare early in tank fuel pumps to the 78 Bronco tank hole. But I'm thinking I may be able to swap one in.? It seems as tho the 25 gal tank in a 78 was much the same as one in 87???

I looked at some information recently based on another thread about 33-gallon tanks. Based on pics, it appears to me that a 79 and 96 tank are identical other than the 96 has a larger hole for the pump assembly. But doing an actual comparison side by side would be best to verify.

I've been researching the replacement tanks on the Bronco Graveyard site, and it appears that the 1980-89 tanks used a2"

I've been researching the replacement tanks on the Bronco Graveyard site, and it appears that the 1980-89 tanks used a 2" hole as well. My tank is in great shape...I'm going to harass the local parts store for pump/sending unit comparison. Thanks!
