The rear drum on my '90 LD F250 4x4 will not come off. I've completely loosed the adjuster and it still wont budge. I've soaked it for a day with penetrating oil, I've pryed, beat with a deadblow and almost about to use the old theory of if it wont come loose...get a VBFH! Any thoughts? Thanks
not trying to make you sounds stupid...because I've done this...but your Parking brake is off right? I usualy have to get a rubber mallet and beat the cra*p out of it...sometimes a few taps of a hammer helps.
Yep, its a Sterling semi-float. The parking brake no longer functions and I've had no problems driving, so Im almost positive its not the park brake. I've tried beating the crap out of it. that's why Im hoping someone else has had this problem.

there are few problems in the universe that cannot be solved by a suitable application of concentrated phaser fire. but where to find a phaser......
seriously, I have found that using a 16# sledge with caution around the axle shaft has helped me in the past but hit the drum not the axle as if you do the impact will be transferred into the diff and that may open up a whole new set of problems for you.
aside from that if you have poor aim you may be replacing a lug stud or two and try to work in a circular pattern.
When this happens what I do is unbolt the wheel cylinder from the backing plate, disconnect the brake line and push it in. This makes the shoes fall apart inro the drum and it should come apart. If its still stuck then the drum must be rusted to the wheel studs so I knock them back on the flange with a brass or lead hammer. Still be careful not to bugger up the threads. HTH -greg
I don't know for if this applies to your rear end, but I know on some you have to take the axles out to get the drums off. Thats the way it is on my brothers 79 250. I don't know much about the semi-float rear though.
