I need to buy a locking fuel cap for the behind the seat fuel tank. I park the truck on the driveway and gas is going to be missing soon. I want to buy a locking cap from Stant. The problem is They sell two kinds. One is with evaporative emission system, the other is with out. I can I find this out?
Are you filling the truck tank full and then parking it for a few days? The sun can heat the gas tank and the gas will run out on the ground. I never fill my 66 without driving 3-5 gallons out then always park it drivers side high making it harder for the gas to run out.
John, the OP lives in CA and Evaporative Emission (Evap/Em) was introduced in 1970.
1970/72: Evap/Em was mandatory in sold new in CA Passenger Cars, F100's, Bronco's and Econolines. Was also mandatory in some 1971/72 F250's sold new in CA.
Evap/Em: Unleaded fuel, non vented fuel cap(s). Tanks (in-cab & under bed auxillary [if so equipped]) have a round hole adjacent to the sending unit for the Evap/Em fuel vapor valve.
Fuel vapor line(s) route from tank(s) along the right (passenger) side inner frame rail to the round steel charcoal cannister that's located on frame rail in front of engine crossmember.
sweetlou1: Look on the Warranty Plate (riveted to left door face below latch) for the DSO code. If it's 71 or 72 .. your truck was sold new in CA, but that doesn't mean it has Evap/Em unless it's an F100.
