I finally sold my truck and now i'm in the market for a 92-97 F-150 or bigger. If I can find an extended cab that fits my needs,I'll buy it,but the two I'm looking at right now are both singles. I listen to country so I don't need those huge subwoofers that blare ghetto music, but on some country songs I want a little extra kick to them and I want to be able to crank my music up. First reaction is stuff them behind the seat, but I go to the shooting range a lot and I stuff guns back there. I don't know if they will fit under the seat or not,if not what options do I have? Is there a way to modify the seats to house the speakers?
Also both trucks have bench seats.
I know nothing about car audio at all,I know how to use most cd players and that's about it lol.
They make really shallow sub woofers that you could mount in a box behind the seat. Like /] that. I have 2 10" subs behind the seats in my truck. My box is short enough that I could probably stuff a gun in a case on top of it.
dont get shallow mounts as they dont last as long as regular throw subs. alpine type e's have the smallest mounting depth of any regular throw sub. dont get foam surrounds or paper cones if you can help it as these dont do well with temp chages.
how tall are you? for reference if you want 2 10s and go with a shallow mount sub get 12s, cuase they're smaller and have less xmax they have a smaller output. kicer cvts are a good shallow mount sub
well the shallows are more of a rock sub, if you want to listen to some bas its alright for it but ive been through about 4 rockford r2 12 in subs because they kept blowing but they take alot to blow them just tune the amp in right
they make ones that fit under the seat but they suck terribly. you could put a homemade box on the trans hump and bring it up to the seat in the middle. or just on the trans hump if you want one. on the roof would work. but you my friend should get a topper and fill the bed full of them. swap a 4.o from a ranger and put a 6 inch glasspack on it and shift at 4 grand every time lol
the r2 12in and the 10 in fit right bedind the seat with no problem if its a single cab, alpine makes an 8 in deep mound sub that would have fit behind the seat that i was also looking at, but i didnt have the extra $60 to blow. but I kis my self in the a$$ everytime i blow this one, but again get the amp tuned in right and the will last forever with the shallow mounts
Here's a picture of mine. They're 8 inches. The one closest in the picture was scooted forward some, it goes up against the back of the cab like the further one. They fit perfectly even with the seat all the way back, and the seat doesn't touch them. Since this picture, I also put "L" brackets on them to holt them up against the back of the cab. I attached the brackets to the little bit of trim on the side, didn't put screws through the back of the cab.
My truck is an 88', and you're looking at the next generation, but I believe the amount of space there is almost exactly the same.
alpine type e are the shallowest non shallow mount sub i have found. get em at sonicelectonix for $65 each. dang greatl sub. porbabably going to have to get a box built or do it yourself. its easy if you have the right tools
im sticking by my kicker cvts i overpower and POUND these subs.. i got my whole setup off amazon and ebay.. ebay has boxes for trucks that fit perfect just gotta look for em..
I guess just for reference, I had 2 nonshallow Rockford Fosgate subs at one time, and I currently have 2 JBL Power Series that I think sound a lot better.
