Oh, don't remind me. I once had an extensive coin collection covering all US coins from 1900-1971. Along with that a stamp collection that my grandfather started for me from 1953 with blocks of stamps and their serial numbers. He worked at the Post Office in New York City. Then my parents moved from San Diego, I stayed in San Diego spending one year in the dorms, then 6 months in an apartment, then 5 years in a condo before grad school in Northern California. In one of those moves everything just disappeared never to be seen again. Suspect a box was thrown in the trash.
I've got a very small collection. Silver dollars from the 1880's - 1920's, 1900-1940 wheat pennies, a few others in the mix like some newer U.S. Mint special issued coins.
The prize of my collection is a 1861 Confederate States of America half dollar. 500 made, then they were re-struck and 4 were lost during that process. So I have 1 out of 496 total ever made, and who knows how many are actually left. I've only ever seen one other than mine, and that was at a civil war convention.
One of the nicest "NEW" sets is the 2012 "S" American Eagle silver dollar PROOF set. Paid 150 from US Mint and already selling for over $200. I really should sent them in to have them graded. Price will go up quickly. It's a 2 coin set with one regular proof and the other a reverse proof. A beautiful set of 2 coins.
I started on Lincoln Cents when I was a kid. Didn't have what one would call a great set as far as condition goes, but it was complete minus '09s VDB, '22 no D and the '55 double die. Had a fair bunch of Indian Head Cents (including an '08s), an 1856 Flying Eagle Cent, some Mercury & Roosevelt Dimes, Standing Liberty Quarters & Franklin Halves, Proof sets from 68 - 72. Lost 'em to a burglary in the early 80's. Never really got back into it.

You lost ALL of it??????
Yeesh! That flying eagle cent is worth thousands just by itself.......Even the so-so condition ones......

American Eagles. Finest bullion around......and I ain't just sayin' that to wave the flag.......
Beautiful coins. Just beautiful. Even the non-proof (which is mostly what I've bought). I can imagine the proofs just dazzle......
I need to go through my dad's collection. It's been in the safe deposit box since he died in '97 and it is extensive. I've still got several Krugerrands he left me tucked away for safe keeping.
I don't remember seeing anything near that kind of value on it in the Red Book
Changes everything. They only minted 2000 of the 1856s.....Worth a helluva lot of money. Good condition (which kinda suck) over $6000....and the uncirculated (AU through the PF) anywhere from $15000 to 17500.
OK. A broker wouldn't pay you that......Or other middleman (like pawn....or jewelry buyers)......But a collector would. Or an auction...maybe.

Hold onto them. Gold has been pretty stale lately.....But I don't see them dropping anywhere near the 1990s to 2003 level. And if inflation really DOES take off....it'll shoot above $2000/oz. Guys like Peter Schiff are sure it'll go to the $4000 to $5000/oz level within a couple of years.....but I'm skeptical. Unless things REALLY go to Hell anyway...
I'd be curious about the stuff in the safe deposit box. Don't give out ALL the secrets though....

Unless I get REALLY desperate, the Ks will stay with me....sentimental value at the very least.
I really need to go through the safe deposit box though. I'm really curious now.
