Just a FYI.
215/85/16(29" tall) are too small. Your truck came stock with 235/85/16s(31.5" tall)
As for which tire. You will get 100 opinions from 100 people.
I also didnt see that you answered the question 2wd or 4wd.
Personally, I would go with a Goodyear Wrangler in a 235/85/16. For OPTIMAL snow performance get them studded. The problem with studs is, you can ONLY run them in the winter months, but they are phenomenal in snow and ice
I run 265/75 16. BFG all terrains. They are my third set I've owned and they're been great tires. They do reasonable off road in mud and snow but still do good on the highway. I've always gotten good life from them I'd say at least 45k miles probably a little more. I also really like coopers I may go with their mud tire next time since I mostly use the truck off road now. On a 350 I really like the look of 285/75 16. I plan to go with the 285 next time since I installed an add a leaf kit
I'm on my 5th set of BFG All Terrains. I love them. Better than most on packed snow and ice, good in softer stuff, good on the highway.
Not sure what limited slips are available for your truck. True Trac is probably the best limited slip in that it uses gears instead of friction clutches so it doesn't wear out. Personally I like automatic lockers in the rear. I'm on my second Detroit and I've had a Lock Rite. They can be a little twitchy, but if you don't get on it too suddenly they aren't hard to get used to.
If you are not looking for anything crazy, I second the Yokohama Geolandar. Any of the other tires mentioned are good too, but I have bought several sets of the Yokos'.

Sorry I thought I did. Its 2wd. Are you sure about the tire size? When I went to tirerack it said there is two different tire sizes for my truck, but I do agree. 215/85/16 is way to small. Maybe they are the wrong size.... My speedometer is off 5 mph over 55 mph. They look goofy on a f350 crew cab with an 8 foot bed.
I have no idea if studs are legal or not in IL either way I wouldn't do it. The last few years we have not had a lot of snow. Most of our snow storms are a few inches. Last week was our biggest snow storm with 8". I would think a good set of tires and maybe and lsd would be enough.

I had a Detroit locker on a wrangler and hated in the snow. I do remember hearing that they act a little better on larger trucks. A buddy of mine had a tru trac and loved it. It wasn't as good offroad as the Detroit but acted much better on the streets.
Does anyone else have any experience with a tru trac?
Go for the OE size 235/85/16, you will get the best snow traction and mpg with those. I have the Discoverer STTs, and like them so far. They sing on the freeway, and do fairly well in snow, however on hardpack and ice they tend to float. Deep snow they dig very well. Once these wear out I may go to the Duratracs in the OE size. Right now I have 265/75/16s. You need load range E tires for your truck.

The 285's are right about 33 inches tall and about 9" wide. I like the profile better than say 33x12.50's but that's just my preference. You get a better load rating too. I've seen a bunch of 350's that run them they seem to be a nice fit
