Hey every one,
I Have started a project on a 79 1/2 ton short box truck. what i did was i took off all the front end running gear and did a little modification to put a dana 60 axle with leaf springs under neath it. i'v got it completely bolted up (it turned out really good better than i thought it would) but ran in too a small problem with the driveline adaption the angle of the driveline looks like it would be too steep. sence the axle pretty sure it came off a earlier ford with a divored transfer case. is set defferently than a married case setup would be. my question is what should i do to make this work? Oh yeah, i put leaf springs off of a f250 highboy on it.
Thanks Sled_man4ever
You can buy shims to put inbetween the axle pad and springs to change the angle of the pinion. You need to find out how far you are off in degrees to get the right shims. Word of warning "do not get the shims that are casted, get the ones that are cut from billet aluminum". The cast ones will crack and eventually fall out. I believe Rancho Suspension provide the good ones.
Thats sounds like a good idea but is it good to shim the front axle. wouldn't change the camber of the steering. i looked in rancho website and didn't see anything for shimes.
Yes, it will change the camber if you have to shim it allot. I am not sure what the tollorance is for the frontend but I believe the rearend needs to be around 7 degrees from angle of rearend yoke and angle of the tcase yoke. Talk to a 4x shop about the shims and they will probably have a more exact answer for you on the angles for the front.
