I have a 4.6l '98 SOHC expedition and I wanted to know if I put on a 75mm throttle body would I have to add anything else to make this work or is this a simple screwdriver job. Also, would I have to change anything such as reprogramming the computer or putting on a new MAF sensor. Also, is all this worth it or is it a sham like the throttle body spacers, of which I found out was a scam from this forum. I have added a K&N FIPak and a bullit cat-back exhaust. I want to do more and I'm jumping at this chance. Thanks.
I have the 5.4l, but I believe the 75mm TB I used will work on either. First off, the upgrade is well worth it. Any mod that will allow more air into the motor will give you more power. As far as other upgrades, You should have a cold air or FIPK installed to take full advantage of the increased air flow. What good is a 75mm TB (3") is you have a smaller diameter air intake ? A bigger exhaust will help as well. As far as the install goes, it was pretty easy. Remove the stock air intake, then the 4 bolts on the TB. Switch the Throttle Position Sensor over to the new TB, and re-install. You need to have a new gasket, or some of that silicone gasket maker stuff.......
I found mine on Ebay motors for $160. I had to make a gasket out of that silicone RTV stuff, but the install was pretty painless. I reset the computer after the install for good measure, but the install manual did not mention it.
Rtpjunior,
Thanks for your info. The larger TB is something I've not yet considered, but will in the near future. How much does it decrease your gas mileage?
