Just a quick question. Getting ready to pull motor out of 1975 F100 4X4 360. Will removing these nuts on both sides of the motor free the motor off the mount? I plan on seperating at the bellhousing, will I need to loosen the trans mount and raise (drivetrain) slightly to get the studs to clear the mount? I also posted this over on the engine forum, doing this by myself so looking for things to go smoothly. Thanks
Front mounts yes, remove the nuts as shown. I would leave tranny mount as is. If shes a auto, place a floor jack under the front of the pan, use a block of wood between them. There will be an inspection cover on front of the plate between engine and tranny. Remove the four nuts retaining torque converter and push it back towards tranny to clear bolts. Manual- jack the same, and the clutch assembly will slide off the input shaft... put slight tension under the tranny and remove bell bolts, starter clutch linkage etc. Lift the motor just enough to clear those shown motor mount studs and jack the tranny to keep things from binding. Pull the rad not just the fan, it'll give you more room.
Thanks for the reply, just the info I needed. I removed just about everything I could for more room, most will be goin on the other motor anyways. Thanks again..Tater
No ac , that helps, take cap and rotor of too, they may break if you sling the chain head to head. An engine tilter is your friend at this point, moreso when putting your 390 in
I posted this over on the 390/428 forum but should probably ask here. I got the motor out tonight, a few hitches.......but it's out. I had to remove the oil pan and pick-up to clear the radiator support, I was about 5-6 inches from clearing it with the pan on. I thought about maybe removing the front tires to lower the front end when putting the new motor in, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 75 4X4 F-100. Tater
Last motor swap I did, we took off the front wheels and dropped it to the ground. That extra couple inches really helps and doesn't take any time. You'll be fine.
Ive done it different ways.... just deflate em, remove them but the floor jack under the pumpkin can get in the way of the cherry picker. Or see if it is possible to shorten the chain on the boom. Or extend the boom out to the max allowable for your load. It will allow it to lift to max.
