hey all, i am in the process of buying parts to rebuild my dead 1965 300ci six.. i bought some silvolite pistons (69-87 #3136 +040, have some 83 rods coming to match the pistons) and i was wondering what a good set of rings to use would be.. i have been looking at sealed power moly rings.. are moly rings wise for a street engine with a HOT cam? my truck has a manual trans and 4:10 stock posi rear. i plan on having the head and block decked to boost compression slightly. will be using headers and 4bbl intake to comlete everything..
PS: do i have any options on a better harmonic damper on a 300?
i would like to go to a serp belt setup if i can.
and i have a heavy duty 390 radiator out of a 1968 truck i stripped.. would that be too much radiator for a 300??
I've run chrome-moly rings in some pretty hot engines, but it's been a while. They performed acceptably, but if I remember correctly, required a different finish hone to the cylinder wall. Your machine shop should know if this is still the case.
I've read about other dampers - sorry, I can't recall where you can get ahold of one.
