I have a 2003 7.3 Excursion, I am doing a bunch of top end work including rebuilding the fuel bowl and installing bellowed up pipes and a wicked wheel 2 and plenum sleeves, While i have everything off up top i was going to rebuild the HPOP, My question is this. I have 305,000 miles on my truck, would you just install new sleeves or would you replace with a dieselsite Adrenaline pump, I realize this is a high price prevenatative measure so I wanted to see what you all have to say about the average lifespan of a HPOP in a 7.3? What are your recommendations? Below is a list of all my mods, including the ones i am currently doing.
2003 Ford Excursion 7.3 Eddie Bauer; 305,000 miles; stage 1 Swamps injectors; Banks Ram Air intake; Banks Monster Diesel turbo back exhaust and power elbow; Superchips Cortex tuner with the heavy tow tune installed; 35x12.50x20 toyo open country Mud Terrain tires on my 20x12 massi hulk rims; Snow Performance MPG Max water/meth kit; dieselsite coolant filtration system, Delo ELC coolant; Dieselsite Transfiltration system; Fitch Fuel Catalyst System; Up front F350 snow plow x code springs with 2 inch hangers and a Ranch Hand Legend bumper with extended shackles and extended sway bar links and dual bilstein shocks, Fox dual steering stabilizer setup going to the Dana 60 front axle, out back I have Moded B code springs with 4 inch F350 blocks and Hellwig rear sway bar = 6 inch lift, Wicked Wheel 2 (beta-testing for dieselsite); International coated bellowed uppipes from riffraff, and intake plenum inserts; high pressure oil crossover; fuel rail crossover units from riffraff; Boost relief valve from dieselsite; AIH delete Mod, CCV Mod
It would be simpler and cheaper to simply rebuild the IPR and refresh all the o-rings and sleeves that are involved, if there are sleeves involved. I don't think you have to replace it unless you are experiencing problems with oil pressure at the injectors and then it could be the LPOP and not the HPOP.
You all know anyone who had hpop fail? How many miles did it last? So even though I'm right there with everything off you wouldn't even pull it to replace o-rings? I'm not having any pressure issues... It would be purely preventative.
The stage 1's are from swamps and according to them no change in programming or tuning is needed since they are still split shot injectors and they only add 30 hp on top end
Well I myself replaced my HPOP with a T500 as a preventative measure. Ok also because the E99 has a 15* hpop and the T500 is 17* and at the time I only had 200k. I was very impressed with the results. Now you said you are still running split shot injectors. Well split shot injectors do benefit from a new or modded hpop. In stage 1 injectors split shot need more oil than the single shot injectors. So I would say bite the bullet and drop the coin on a new hpop and replace the hpop lines too if you haven't already at 300k. Just my 2 cents
I like the sounds of that T500 pump, only problem is that riffraff has a 2-3 week wait before shipment, which means Id be down for Minimally 3 weeks, I was hoping to have this thing back together and on the road in a week. Anyone know any other sources for the t500 or any other reasonably priced upgraded HPOP's?
Stage 1 splits? Oh yea... those are oil hogs. It's not the vendor that's having a problem with delivery, it's Terminator Engineering - the supplier. There is such a monster demand for upgrades to this truck right now that these poor souls are overworked and short of cores. Injectors, exhaust components, boost components, HPOPs, cups, sensors, modules, and fluid lines are all coming up due for maintenance after at least a decade and people are keeping these engines and fixing them up, or buying them and fixing them up.
I think I will be quite pleased too, geesh the new lines for the HPOP are super expensive! anyone know and good cheap sources for these? Should I go ahead and replace since im at 300K
I replaced mine with the T500 at 240K. Some of the uber-modders jack their ICP up to 4000 PSI on these and they hold. You want hot oil at thousands of PSI contained in there for many years to come... I'm not sure you want to seek out the lowest bidder.
