So, 2 weeks ago, my old stock carb was spewing gas out while I was 100 miles from home. Purchased the Holley 670 cfm unit. Installed using all steel line with rubber hose as the couplers where needed. Also added a fuel regulator set at 5.5 psi. Old, stock fuel pump is still in use. I made a couple of runs to work and then the run back up I-5 to drop off some stuff to my son, etc...
The first start-up had the 460 roaring to life. Love that electric choke
Next, no fuel leaks. Cool!
The immediate impression I had was the smooth acceleration while driving. The old carb bogged down while it was cold. The trips to work and Redding went without incident.
The only item worth mentioning is that my truck stalls out while waiting at the light. I'm thinking that I have to adjust the idle settings.
Ive go a brand new Holley avenger on my truck and it runs like crap and I cant find anyone that knows anything about carbs.
Holley site has lots of info but you have to know something about what your doing to start with.
Define "runs like crap". Does it idle ok? Is it hesitating off idle? No power? Gotta give us something to work with.
I slapped a Holley Truck Avenger on my truck last winter and fought flooding problems through spring until I finally gave in and bought a fuel pressure regulator. It likes about 5.5psi of fuel pressure. It's been great, for the most part, since then.

It doesnt idle down and its a carb adjustment not the idle screw.
i have a extra spring hooked on it to pull it back now but it would be dangerous if the spring came off.
The extra spring maes it hard on the leg pushing down the pedal.

Holley's are finiky...what size engine? vs what size carb did you get? do you have vacuum secondary or mechanical? Did you change the intake? and or base plate? also there should have been different springs for the vacuum advance some are lighter some are heavier...

it also bogs for a second when you step on it.
Wait, so it returns to idle with an added spring? So how many springs do you have on the throttle shaft?
Hesitation when you first open the throttle could indicate an accelerator pump shot that's too small. What color accelerator pump cam do you have on there now?
