429 carb??? need feedback asap

just a quick blurb. i have a 1970 galaxie XL with the stock 429 4bbl stock intake. carb finally died after many many refurbs. what is the best option for me. i have looked high and low and ive heard everything from 600cfm to 750cfm to as big as i want or to how they came stock with only a 600cfm. what is gonna be a cheap easy solution. its only a mild sunday driver.

429

750 vacume secondary, quick fuel carbs, great carb for a sunday drive. if driving easy and your only using about 375 cfm and when getting after it the back barrels will kick in and then you can get some air to it. i used to run 429 for years and this is what i ran. also they make a nice 650 cfm that will work also. is the vehicle heavy or light? light go 650 and quick fuel has a good tech page and tech service and can set up for you to your elevation if this is a issue. i live at 4000' and play higher.

You could also use the Holley 670cfm Street Avenger carb, I used this on my stock 460ci & it worked faultless.... even gave good fuel econemy.

I'd say keep away from the Street Avenger carbs and stick with the Classic series Holley carbs.I ran a Street Avenger on an engine and after about a year it started stumbling/sputtering and backfiring. After lots of fidling and external adjusting I removed the carb, took it apart and found that the shiny coating was peeling on the inside. The truck was a daily driver,I used pump gas only and always maintained the vehicle.Spoke to a Holley rep and he told me that I had probably let it sit with E85 or some "special blended race fuel" and a few other excuses.I run a 3310-2 on my 460 and it runs fine.I'll never run a "new plated" carb again.

That looks BAD!! I have a couple street avengers and no problems at all.. But for a next carb I was going to get the new Demon that reminds me of the thermoquad but much simpler. I think they should work quite well as long as your stock or not real wild on your build. But a 600 Holley does work very well on the same type motor too, and cheaper..

holley and quick fuel.

holley is a low end carb and quick fuel is a higher end carb with upgrades that the holley needs. anadized metering plates no coating. check ball for back fire protection of power valve. metering plate has all threaded ports for better tuning if needed. plus the vac secondarys have better tunability with the adjustable needle valve, easy fine tuning of carb. several other upgrades not mentioned. no comparison between the 2 carbs on tunability. air bleeds are threaded and easy to change for different applications.
