1976 Help Needed Wont Start

So I went out to start my truck today and it fired up twice this morning just fine.
This afternoon I went out again to start it and she wont start up. The motor turns over and the starter engages. The volt meter shows that the battery is at 12.4 sitting. Any thoughts? This truck is new to me. I bought it a few days ago and drove it home fine. The engine is a 400m. I am not sure a good place to start would be.
Other thing to note is that I crank her over and you the typical rugh rugh rugh. Then when I turn the key back to off there is a sort of delayed rugh. Hope that makes sense.

Start by checking for fuel, then for spark.

Pull off the air cleaner and look down the throat of the carburetor; when you pull the throttle back you should see two solid streams of gas shoot onto the venturi's.

Checked we there is fuel comming into the carb. The solenoid and coil are new.
I am going to pull the plugs and check for spark tomorrow. Any other points to check first. I took my battery to Autozone and had them max it out...battery is new as well.

Put the truck in park or if it's a manual put it in neutral and maybe block the wheels so it won't roll. turn the key to on position pull the coil wire out of the distributor cap position the end so it's about a 1/2 inch from a good ground and you can see it from over by the battery. just behind the battery is the solenoid/starter relay take a piece of wire and jump from the battery cable from the + post on the battery to the "s" terminal on the solenoid (usually the front if you have a two terminal solenoid) when the engine cranks over you should see a spark at the coil wire if not the best place to look is the ignition box on the drivers side inner fender. These babies die quite regularly

SO just meesing around with it a little more. Still not started, testing tomorrow more but after i turn the engine over and it doesnt start but turns fine. If I leave the key in the on postion the motor stops turning as it should. As soon as I turn it to the off position it will turnover one more time. Hope that makes sense.

Might be a timing issue i.e. chain jumped, distributor slipped, etc.

check the bolt that holds the distibuter down...or try turning the distributer one way or the other it shouldnt move...if it moves its out of time...could be causing you the problem.

All 1976's have a DuraSpark ignition module and a stator aka magnetic pickup coil inside the dizzy.

The modules were so prone to failure that Ford techs referred to them as NeverSpark!

So quick update so far. I took out the old ignition module based on all the research I did last night and took it into the autoparts store for a test. The module is completely dead. Hooked up the new one and it worked fine on the meter. Now to put her in the truck and she what happens tonight. Thanks for all the help as always.
