Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a 2000 f350 dually crew cab with a 7.3. The truck I'm looking at says it has a tow package which I think is a lower geared rear end. Anyone know if this would be much worse on diesel than the '99 SRW Ext. Cab F250 I had? I was getting 16 with that truck.
There should be a tag on the diff cover, telling you the ratio.
My F250 has the tow package, and still has a 3.73.
I don't know if the dually changed the ratio.
Some one will jump in soon.
Same here, I ordered mine with the tow pac and 3.73 gears. The tag on the diff will tell you the ratio. Somebody here posted the codes and will probably see this and post them again. Check your rpms. Mine are about 1500 at 50mph, that will give you an Idea.
Thats funny, but when I ordered mine, build date 9/98 only 4.10 gears were available with dual rear tires. Maybe the late 99 had 3.73 with dual wheels but not the early.
I tried to order the 3.73 rear gears in my e99 and there was know way it would go threw. I ordered in June and it wasn't built till 9/98. I think some of that was the dealer on ordering.
On the diff tag the code reads: 1 Plant code
2 Axle ratio
3 Denotes Traction-Lok®
4 Ring gear diameter
5 Build year
6 Build month
7 Build day Mine reads:
4.10 V2C34 UB
606775-5 LS
On the door jam label it shows “axel” and mine is “F2”. I was told on the forum that F2 is 4:10

Might be a regional thing as well. My 99 was a 10/98 build with 3.73 and 6spd. I remember when ordering a 95 we price checked it in Denver and they claimed to not be able to sell us one with 3.55 ratios, regional altitude deal we were told. Ended up ordering it in MT with the 3.55's (same place my 99 came from).
