In addition to having codes listed for F-Series, my '97 Factory Ford service CD lists the '97 F-150 axle codes as:
18 — 3.08.
19 — 3.55.
26 — 3.73.
27 — 3.31.
H9 — 3.55 Limited slip.
B6 — 3.73 Limited Slip.
A code 45 is not used on the F-150. When it is used on the F-250/350 & SuperDuty it stands for a 4.10, 7400 lb. axle. This would be massive overkill in the Explorer since all of the Explorer's axles are 3200 lbs.
Final confirmation? Thank you muchly. Found out this AM that the third - and hopefully final - axle for our trailer arrived at the dealer's today. Should get the trailer back next week then I can sort out the weight business relative the 3.55
