Which engine in a X

I have not had a Ford in awhile but now am looking at getting rid of my current truck for a Excursion. There are two that I am looking at one is a v10 and the other is a 5.4 Mostly a daily driver, I only go 11 miles to work everyday and will tow my car trailer and Jeep to the trails here is AZ a couple time a month.

Is the 5.4 enough power? How much mileage difference between the two? I have not towed with a gas engine in quite awhile, but cannot justify having a diesel anymore.

thanks

I own two V-10's (Excursions), and a 5.4 F350. My 2002 F350 has the ZF-6 speed manual. I tow boats and trailers, and I haul a camper. If doing any towing with a 5.4, the ZF-6 is the only way. The 5.4 in an X will feel like a dog towing with the auto trans. If you can possibly find a V-10 with 4.30 gears you will even like it more!
Good Luck!

Go V10! Average Mileage will probably be close to the same.

I have a 5.4 and if towing your Jeep far it will have power issues up steep hills, off road etc. However I tow two large sit down ski's with mine and she has no issues. 60mph all day long. steep hills through I am stuck at 45-50mph. But those are steep a$$ hills.

Not sure what V-10's average for gas but I have a City Commute in mine and averaging 13mpg. I get 15-17 freeway but have her lifted with large tires. V-10's are around 10 or less in the City and towing I hear.

If you go 5.4 I would suggest exhaust and cold air intake. It really woke up my truck. better throttle response and seems to have more umph!

I would suggest test driving both. good luck great trucks

If you like less power and almost the same MPG go with the little one.

As long as you get an Ex, you'll be a happy camper. (But get the v10 for eternal happiness)

I have a V10 with 3.73 gears. It is adequate for towing 7-8000 lbs. I would not want less power though especially if I was towing in hills or mountains. I would hardly call my truck "fast". I would call it reliable.

Just made a deal to trade my dodge 2500 even up for a 2000 v10 4x4. I think i made a good deal.
