I apologize if I have already asked, or should be able to find, but I can not.My clutch linkage is BAD.My 4.9,4 speed manual, only has about 400,000 miles on it, and all the linkage is wallowed out ,at the pivot points.
Can I just convert to hydraulic? What is the donor?Should I do it?
The rods, swing shafts, and pedal pivots are all shot. I pulled off the hiway at an off ramp, pushed in the clutch, and bang, pedal to floor, and the pointed piece,on the final adjuster fell off.Had my grandson with me, and kept going,(shifting without the clutch). Now the piece is lost, and this is the second time this has happened.Just hoping hydraulic is possible. Thank You. Sorry, It is a 1981 E150 Custom.
1984 to 1991 E series have hydraulic clutches. You will need to look at the set up to see if you need the pedals in addition to the master cylinder set up.
In the E, the master mounts on the floor near the steering column, rather than on the firewall. The floor will flex, so count on reinforcing it when you mount the master there.
You could also adapt a different master.
The slave cylinder on my '85 was mounted on a bracket on the bell housing to engine bolts. IIRC, it pushed on the clutch fork.
A cable set up could also be done, but would be another adaptation job.
I am in Denver, and I can't find a stick van,in any of the local yards,Does anyone have this setup that I could buy from them? Thanks for the information.
