Just throwing this out to see what everyone thinks, in the next few months I will be ripping out my 91 TTB suspension and replacing it with 70's equal length I -beams, I will be running coilover shocks, I am expecting close to 20 inches of wheel travel, No this isnt a slow rock crawling truck, It is a Baja Prerunner that will be able to handle whoops @ 80mph, different style of truck than a lot of what I see but it should be respected by all
dumb question, this truck is not meant to be driven slow, it is meant to pre run desert racing courses at high speed, 4 wheel drive is not neccessary due to 20 inches of wheel travel, it is being built for its purpose
Put some pics in my gallery of where I am at now, this truck is constantly changing and it is even different now than in the pics, keep checking my gallery for updates, if interested
WHen I was looking for a Bronco a while back I would have loved to find a factory 2wd. I know now that this was not to be.
Living in the city I dont have alot of use for 4wd except in the winter, and then only occasionally. I went for the looks and manuverability of a bronco.
I'll be looking up your gallery from time to time, good luck!
Curious why you think this would "ruin" a bronco I will be shedding so much weight off my front end, my truck will handle great, I guess I would'nt be able to climb hills as well but you have to remember the terrian where I live is desert, no mud, no rock crawling, no need to drive slow, so in the end 4x4 is not even necessary
So why are you going to use a Bronco? They don't make 'em any more, so there's only so many of them left. It'd be a lot cheaper & easier to do that to a 2WD pickup, and there are plenty of them.
You are almost there on why I want to do this, there are few Broncos out there, The price to do the custom fabrication work work on my truck would be the same cost whether or not I had an F150, Ranger, Explorer, or any Ford, the suspension is going to be Equal length I beams off of either a Ford Econoline Van or 70's Pickup, these vehicles came with equal length I beams, why equal length I beams? check this link http://www.mcneiloff-road.com/suspension.html They explain it pretty well, remember this is high speed desert offroad racing.
Well, you know I think it's up to the builder to do what he wants? I mean, if it works, and your happy with it, then who cares, right? Well, I'm also in the process in building a 2wd Bronco. Yeah, I know, why ruin a perfectly good truck. well, I like to be different, and customizing is what I like to do. I'm actually building a whole new front clip, possibly a Mustang II front end, so I can lay the frame. I'm also doing a stock floor body-drop and going to try to tuck 24 inch wheels under it. I guess ya know, to each their own. I mean after all, we're all Ford guys or we wouldn't be here, right??
Have at it buddy. As long as you have fun with your truck that is all that counts. I have two Broncos(4x4 thank god) but there are plenty out there for the people who want them to play with as they see fit. As long as you stick with Ford you are good.
As a side note: Ford did make about 15 special order 2x4 Broncos in the 70's for a pizza delivery company. Before you naysayers start on me, do the research and learn about them. Hint: I read about them in a big auto magazine a few years ago.
