Recharging AC

I was wondering if I can recharge my own AC.

I bought the low pressure line and gauge at a local auto parts store and the cans of R134a with oild and seal conditioner and leak finder were pretty cheap. All in all I spent about 25 bucks.

My local shop wanted 80 dollars to do it. Is their something that I am missing. Is there something that they do that I can not? Any help thanks.

To charge the system at the correct level, you need gauges to
monitor the "HIGH" and "LOW" side pressures as you are
charging the sustem.

Recharging AC

A decent set of gages and the ability to moniter the high and low side while adding refrigerant is a real must .you can find an tempurature to pressure conversion chart at the following link and figure out what your high side should be when properly charged and then bring it up to that .

Recharging AC

Once you open the system, it must be evacuated, (pull a vacuum) or you may be wasting your time and freon. The accumulator should be replaced if it has any age on it.

You need to be sure there is enough oil in the system too, or you'll be buying a new compressor.

As stated, you'll need a set of gauges to assure the proper amount of freon in the system.
