1952 F2 Questions
Just bought a fully restored, bone stock, 52 F2. I am trying to decipher whether or not the color is an original 1952 Ford truck color. Pre-restoration photos show a solid truck in a medium blue color. The Color code is B. Production code is 22E59. VIN is F2D2KC17...
New paint color seems consistent with original photos. Truck has original 16" wheels.
Does anyone know what color code B is what the production code means?
Thanks,
John

The paint code "B" in 1951 and 1952 was for Sheridan Blue. Perhaps more than with other colors, this blue seems to really be effected by full sunlight or shadows. Below are pictures of the same truck, one of my favorite fully restored '52s, that show how this seems to happen.
Your truck as you know has the 215 c.i. OHV 215 six cylinder engine that was first offered in '52. Same as my truck. The wheels should be black on an F-2 or F-3. The production codes are a bit of a mystery most of the time. If it can be believed, your code works out to May 22nd, and the 59th truck produced that date at the Kansas City plant. Don't, however, take that as gospel. Stu

Thanks so much Stu. Your truck is beautiful. I had seen pics of it before. It looks exactly like my F2. I'll get photos posted soon. My wheels are also painted blue. I have some very old photos of my truck and it had red wheels. Someone had told me that stock F2 16" wheels were, and should be body colored. Not certain where he got his info. I also have a very stock 56 F100 with original off-white factory 15" wheels.
Thanks for the help Stu,
John

Bet not. There's no direct match possible of new paint formulas to old formulas, and no telling how your truck's prior owner settled on the exact color for his repaint. I'd suggest pulling an inner door inspection panel (assuming it was repainted with the truck) and taking it to a paint store to be scanned. Based on the scan they could mix you some touch up. Probably would be a minimum of 1/2 pint or so required. That's happened to me. Stu
