Trim Rings

I have 16.5 wheels on my F250 with the normal 6" ones on the front and the 10" ones on the rear. I bought some trim rings that are designed for both 16" and 16.5" wheels, but I can't get them to stay on the wheels. The horizontal section where the wheel goes back to the center section is on a taper and the rings have nothing to clamp on to. Any ideas on how to get these to hold on?

I have tried twisting the trim ring tabs to get a better grip, but they just keep working loose as they slide down off the wheels. Am I stupid or does anybody else have some tricks to use to keep these on the wheels.

Thanks,

Eric

Are these the beauty rings, meant to just snap onto the wheel to enhance the look of a hubcap/dog dish or the trim rings designed so that a 15" full wheelcover will fit inside of the ring for the 16.5" wheels? I am not aware of a ring that fits BOTH a 16" and 16.5" wheel?

D2AZ-1130-J (replaced D1AZ-1130-A) .. 15" Wheel Cover / E250/300/350 & F250/350 use with D2TZ-1210-A trim ring / Obsolete

1971/72 Galaxie/LTD / 1972/74 E300 / 1972/79 F250/350 / 1975/79 E250/350.

In order to install 15" wheel covers on 16" wheels, D2TZ-1210-A trim ring was snapped on first, then the 15" wheel cover was snapped onto the trim ring.

While this wheel cover is "as original" any 15" wheel cover can be used.

It is the beauty rings and I think the main issue is that the taper of the wheel causes them to slide out of the wheel with vibration.

The box said that the rings fit both 16 and 16.5 wheels and they only go in about 2" into the wheel. The wheels look really nice with them on, but there just isn't enough clamping load from the spring steel clips to keep them attached to the taper. They are not the Ford factory ones, but some that I got from a wheel company and are made in Taiwan. I just like the way the wheels look with the stock hub caps and the beauty rings/ trim rings.

I am looking for tricks or tips other people may have used to get trim rings to stay in place.

Well...I don't know for sure but I still don't know how the ring can fit both a 16" or 16.5" rim? I think the problem might be that the aftermarket trim is really only for a 16" wheel and since you have the 16.5" rims, they just won't fit right. I know my factory trim rings that are designed for the 15" wheelcovers to be snapped in, will only fit my 16.5" wheels. They would not fit my 16" wheels. Perhaps you might need to pick up a set of the factory original rings for the 16.5" wheels. Per Bill's email, it looks like there are some NOS available. I also see some, occasionally, on Ebay. Maybe somebody else on the forum has some suggestions?

I expect you are right, but the box did say that they fit both size wheels. I guess I will just try to spruce up the existing wheels to make them look as nice as I can. Anyone know of any decent Chrome paint, LOL?

Thanks a bunch,

Eric

23 do your self a favor and go with the originals can you post a pic? the originals are ment to snap in to the center ring not the sides of the rim as i think you are tyieing to explain i have 4 trucks all f250 or f350 with both the older 16.5 and newer 16" rims they fit both no problem a hint to install the rings use a rubber mallat on the inside by the wheels snap ring not the edge! this will keep you from damaging them and to remove take off the 15" cap 1st then the ring useing a small pry bar again by the wheels snap ring i have had my rings/caps for years all still in mint shape useing this method [p.s.i take the caps/rings off my self for any tire repair work] check my gallery i have lots of pics regards joe

These are the beauty ring style and I would like to use them with my dog dish hub caps to add a bit more flare to the truck.

As It seems to be a big pain and I blew $80 on them, I think that I will just strip the wheels down to bare metal and spray them with a good chrome paint system and clear them for protection. I want to paint the flats or mounting faces, the same colour as the truck and polish the dog dish caps. The rear wheels will look awesome like this as they are such a deep dish stock. The fronts are so shallow that they will look good, but not great.

Thanks for your assistance guys. Anyone want a set of 16" trim rings, ?

Eric
