I have a 2000 F250, The 4X4 stopeed working so i checked the fuses and such but i ended up taking it to Ford to have the professionals look at it.
They told me it was the actuator motor on the transmission, the cost of the motor was $549.00 + $100.00 to install + the $100.00 to trouble shoot.
So i want to my locan auto parts store and bought one for $129.00 and iinstalled it myself. Well it worked and went into 4X4 and i plowed my drive way and now its stuck in 4X4, I can hear the actuator motor ( Grinding ) i think.
So my question is, Is there any way to check the motor? or check my 4X4 unit?
You have to make sure you have everything lined up when you install it. It may be off a bit. I would take it off and manually place the truck in two wheel drive and try to realign everything.
Yep - when I did mine it was specific. I had to spin the transfer case actuator manually to neutral before installing the motor. That way the motor 'knew' where it was starting and would react accordingly. Double check the installation instructions, you might be a notch off.
Humm, thought it lined up pretty good, so I line up the motor not the transfer case? Just double checking. A friend mentioned that my batteries might be the cause because they are weak, but if it will start my truck wouldn't it turn the transfer case?
I doubt it's the batteries. It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I had to manually reach up in there and click the transfer case into neutral before installing the motor. I got my motor at Napa.
