CRT HEI Install

Ok folks,

I started my HEI install on Sunday and I am now at the point where I need to make sure the dizzy is wired up properly

Can someone please confirm the firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8?

Also, it doesn't matter which connection on the dizzy cap I choose as #1, as long as the truck is at TDC, the wire I am connecting from cylinder #1 has the shaft pointing at it?

Is this right so far?

Firing order for FE? Yup, that's it.

Yes, you can put #1 anyplace as long as the rotor points there at TDC. Then go counterclockwise from there.

I ran into a few issues; one being that the Oil pump shaft came out with dizzy, which was quickly remedied by using a telescoping magnet to get the shaft back into its home

When I pulled the old dizzy, I had noted the placement of the rotor position, and how the wires were installed in the old cap; however the issue is that the dizzy cap top nipples are designed in a different pattern, so, re-installation of the wires to cap has me thrown a bit

Also, when my new CRT dizzy finally seated it was about two bumps (remote start switch bumps) over counter-clockwise, as that is the direction our dizzys turn.

My question is this, will my timing be way off because the dizzy didn't seat exactly in the same position as the older dizzy?

I know guys... so many questions... but, that is what the forum is for; asking questions, giving answers, helping each other out.

PLEASE HELP... HAHAHA.. No seriously tho.. I can use the help.

My first steps for the old dizzy removal was to remember the position of the rotor on the dizzy - this didn't help for my situation, as the CRT dizzy cap tips were spaced differently than the stock dizzy cap.

This is right after I pulled the dizzy - tried so hard to pull out that shaft but no luck:

Set the shaft down to get a beverage, came back and the shaft just slipped out

Here is the telescoping magnet I used to re-insert the oil pump shaft thingamagiga:

and here it is installed:

and the final result of all this can be seen here: http://s937.beta.photobucket.com/use...5ad18.mp4.html

another question; does it matter which side the green and pink plugs are connected?

Is one side strictly allocated for power and the other for rpm signal?

One more question; If I have TDC, I connect all plug wires up correctly, but the existing timing marks don't line up... would that be an issue?

Man you did good getting that shaft back in place!

As for the spark plug wires being a different style, you're going to need something like this:

I hope it is just the resolution of the pics, but that oil pump drive looks like a barber pole?? Is it really twisted, or just the picture?

What timing marks? If you are TDC(compression stroke), the rotor points to #1 plug wire, it should fire right up.

The wiring? It is marked on the top of the cap, "TACH" and "BAT".

You are right about the tach and batt... I'm just being over cautious/nervous about not grenading the engine..

Thanks for all the input. I was sweating over nothing... these dizzy installs are quite straight forward.

I'll chronicle my install with sone video and detailed information after I re-gap the plugs to the recommended .050.

Idle feels ok right now... didn't have enough time to let the tr uck warm up today, so I'll wrap it all up tomorrow... Whoo Hoo I'm Excited!!

First time I ever touched a dizzy too
